4WD TIP OF THE WEEK - Roof Racks
Loads that are stored on the roof increase the centre of gravity and can make your vehicle very dangerous and also compromise your safety. Always check the roof loading on your car, as overloading can be make the vehicle unstable if too heavy. The roof loading can be found usually in your drivers handbook or consult a dealer.
The golden rule is to place bulky items rather than heavy ones on the roof. Also remember that you need to fasten your load securely as you will be liable if it comes off. A roof type bag is ideal for this and also helps to keep out the dust whilst some brands are even waterproof. Also remember that whilst you have load on the roof to travel slower, especially on sand as with the higher center of gravity it will make the vehicle more likely to roll over. The best idea is to limit the load as much as possible.
