Canning Stock Route Expedition

Canning Stock RouteThis truly is an expedition for the traveler wanting to take in as much of the outback as possible while covering vast distances of un-spoilt desert regions rarely visited by others. This trip takes us from close to the bottom of Australia to very near the top of Australia yet we do not see the usual towns and small localities that we pass on other trips and expeditions.

This expedition is usually undertaken by the more experienced four wheel drivers who have visited Cape York, seen the Simpson Desert, done the Flinders Ranges and are looking for a more remote and adventure filled region to visit. This certainly is achieved by traveling the Canning Stock Route as it is a trip that takes at least 14 days to complete in good weather and all food, fuel etc must be carried for virtually the whole expedition.

We cross countless sand ridges every day while at the same time we see the landscape change so frequently that we cannot wait to see what the crest of the next sand ridge will reveal to us. A stop is made a many of the wells on the stock route not only to replenish water supplies but also to marvel at the determination shown by pioneers of the past. These wells were hand dug so that cattle being driven along the “Canning” would have enough water to survive this dry country during the many weeks that it took for the journey.

Showers and toilets are set up each night where no other facilities are available and a campfire is standard fare as well. Meals are prepared and cooked by your expedition guides and cleaning up afterwards is also done for you. This is a time for everyone in your party to enjoy the vastness and tranquility of the outback or to just chat to like-minded travelers. This trip will usually end at the top of the Canning Stock Route and other expeditions to places like the Kimberley Region may start as this one finishes. Travelers have the option to undertake several expeditions one after the other.

A pre-trip meeting is held approximately one month before the departure of this expedition to discuss, meals, vehicle preparation, water needed, tyres, distances to be traveled each day, what to expect, daily temperatures, how to get to the starting point and other relevant matters.
