What do I need?
- A suitable, well maintained 4WD vehicle (not all AWDs are
suitable) with dual range transmission. Tyres and brake pads
must have at least 70% allowable wear remaining. (Suitable
vehicles can be hired.)
- Tools and spare belts, hoses, filters and oils appropriate
to your vehicle.
- A UHF transceiver. (These can be hired.) Hand-held units are
not always suitable.
- A fire extinguisher.
- A basic first-aid kit.
- An additional (unmounted) tyre, which is an allowable
fitment with the other 5.
- A cargo barrier or secure cargo tie-down.
- Water containers. Needs will be discussed at the trip
briefing. Fill as directed.
- Fuel containers. Needs will be discussed at the briefing.
Fill as directed.
- A tent and bedding or swags. (Camping gear can be hired.)
Tent peg types will be discussed at the briefing.
- Lighting for your own camp and a torch.
- Comfortable chairs.
- Drinking water and snacks for the road.
- Recreational beverages and drinking glasses.
- Clothes, medications and toilet needs. Time between laundry
facilities will be discussed at the briefing as will the
expected temperatures.
