Duration

One full day

Cost

$420 for one or two drivers in one vehicle.

$50 per driver if a Nationally Recognized Certificate of Achievement is required.

Content

  • A theory session to explain different 4WD systems and their limitations.
  • An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the vehicles present.
  • Graded practical exercises on our prepared track.
  • Rules for 4wdriving
  • Water crossings
  • Side slopes
  • Reading the terrain
  • Wheel footprint
  • A discussion of recovery gear and accessories.
  • Practical recovery exercises using a 'snatch-strap'.
  • Basic Vehicle inspections

4WD bush trainingCourse description
This is an introductory course and it will equip drivers to utilize low-range tracks in National Parks, Forestry, mining sites or other roads of comparable difficulty. Guidelines are given for travel on un-sealed highways and beaches.  For the students contemplating difficult trips like Cape York, The Simpson Desert, Canning Stock Route etc it is recommended that the course be followed by at least one appropriate short tour or an escorted long tour. For students contemplating trips in heavy sand, like the Simpson Desert or ocean beaches, it is recommended that the course be followed by the sand driving course and/or an appropriate short tour.

You need to bring

  • Morning tea and lunch
  • Slip, Slop, Slap!
  • Any recovery gear you already own
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for bush use and for walking water crossings .
  • Chair
